CASTLES

 

Crathes Castle and Gardens is situated on the A93 between Aberdeen and Braemar.  Built in the 16th century, the castle is considered as one of the most magnificant buildings in the area.  The castle exudes a beautiful representation of what a castle should look like.  The turrets, gargoyles, painted ceilings and beautiful gardens make it a superb day out. 

 

Open 1st April - 30th September (10.00am - 5.30pm)

Castle Fraser and Gardens has been described as one of the grandest Castles of Mar, a building that was erected in 1636. A perfect place to visit for woodland walks or for afternoon tea.  It can be located off the A944, 4 miles north of Dunecht.

Fyvie Castle is one of the charms in the region of Aberdeenshire.  The castle has origins dating back to the 13th century, reflecting how the building has been furnished through the ages.  For art lovers there includes works by Raeburn and Gainsborough.

Haddo House is one of the National Trust's hidden gems.  The grounds are beautifully sculpted with a delightful terraced garden, leading to a country park with lakes, walks and monuments.  The tearoom is also worth a visit, with freshly baked scones and homebakes.  The magnificant surroundings complete the experience.
